Goldeyes Beat Black Sox in Exhibition

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes beat Black Sox Professional Baseball 5-3 in an exhibition game at Shaw Park on Saturday afternoon.
The teams agreed to play a seven-inning game.
Winnipeg jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded and no outs, Max Murphy and David Washington drew back-to-back walks. Logan Hill made it 4-0 with an RBI fielder’s choice that resulted in a throwing error.
The Black Sox pulled within 4-1 in the top of the second on an Alex Golembiewski RBI fielder’s choice. Juan Familia’s two-run home run to left in the top of the fourth made it 4-3.
The Goldeyes tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Washington drew a two-out walk, pulled off a delayed steal of second base, and scored on a Hill groundball that resulted in an error.
Erasmo Pinales pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to earn the exhibition save.
Jose Vasquez started for the Goldeyes and took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on four hits in four innings. Vasquez walked three and struck out three.
Jaylen Smith picked up the win with two shutout relief innings. Smith struck out three.
Zack LeBlanc pitched a complete game while taking the loss for the Black Sox, allowing five runs, three earned, on two hits. LeBlanc walked 11 and struck out two.
The Goldeyes and Black Sox meet again Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Josh Lucas is expected to start for the Goldeyes.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes open the 2022 season on Friday, May 13 th versus the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Shaw Park.
