WINNIPEG, MB – Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (33-31) starter Kevin McGovern (7-5) didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning and overall worked seven innings as he led his club to a 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (28-38) on Friday night at Shaw Park. Winnipeg's five-game winning streak came to a halt.

McGovern, who spent parts of five seasons with Winnipeg and totaled 39 wins in a Goldeyes uniform at one point set down 17 straight. He gave up two hits, two walks, and struck out five.
Fargo-Moorhead jumped on the board in the second inning against Winnipeg starter
Joey Matulovich (3-7). With two out, and nobody on, designated hitter Leobaldo Pina singled to center. The next batter, third baseman Nick Novak (8) jumped on the first pitch he saw from Matulovich for a home run which made it 2-0.
The RedHawks broke the game open scoring three times in the eighth. Up 3-0, the first two batters walked. Two hitters later second baseman Manuel Boscan singled in a run which made it 4-0. Pina with two out then tapped a ball to third, Goldeyes third baseman
Dayson Croes instead of stepping on third for a force, threw to first but well over the head of first baseman
Jacob Bockelie and on the two-run error that made it 6-0.
It was the sixth time this season Winnipeg was shutout and while it was the second pitched shutout for Fargo-Moorhead. Matulovich lasted 6 1/3 innings, he gave up six hits, three runs (all earned). The right-hander added eight more strikeouts which gives him 87 this year---second most in the American Association.
Winnipeg's best chance to score was in the seventh when it had runners at second and third. Left fielder
Javeyan Williams hit a tapper to shortstop but he was thrown out on a close play by RedHawks shortstop Sam Dexter.
Game two of this series is Saturday night at 6:00 in Winnipeg. Left-hander Tyler Grauer (5-2) is the scheduled starter for Fargo-Moorhead against Winnipeg lefty

Winnipeg's first hit was with two out in the sixth on a bloop double to left by Croes. Fargo-Moorhead left fielder Scott Schreiber dived for the ball and just missed it. Croes was the only Goldeye to reach base twice
Nolan Lamere made his Winnipeg debut. The right-hander was signed by the Goldeyes two days ago. He worked a shutout ninth. Earlier this season he pitched for the Chicago Dogs in 11 relief appearances
Taylor Lepard allowed three runs (one earned) in 1 2/3 innings. It was the first outing for the Toronto native since July 20th at Milwaukee
Both Goldeyes hits were doubles, aside from Croes, catcher
Jackson Smith had a two-bagger
