FRANKLIN, WI – The Winnipeg Goldeyes were swept by the Milwaukee Milkmen in their season-opening series, falling 12-2 at Franklin Field Sunday afternoon. Boxscore Milwaukee’s offensive onslaught began early, when their third batter, first baseman Griffin Doersching, hit a two-run home run to left field – his second of the new season. Doersching struck again an inning later, lining a two-out, two-run double to left field that brought in catcher Andrew Sundean and third baseman Michael Hallquist, making the score Milwaukee 4 Goldeyes 0 after two. Milkmen left fielder Andy Blake led off the third inning with a home run to left that increased the lead to five runs, before they erupted for five more in the fourth. First, Doersching notched his fifth and sixth runs batted in of the afternoon with a double to right field. Shortstop Delvin Pérez and Hallquist came in to make it 7-0. Doersching would score on a throwing error before second baseman Yordys Valdés singled to right field to drive in right fielder Justin Janas and Blake to give Milwaukee a 10-0 lead. The Goldeyes finally broke through in the top of the fifth when right fielder Roby Enríquez and left fielder Adam Hall hit back-to-back, two-out doubles to make it 10-1. Milwaukee added two more in the bottom of the inning on Janas’ two-run single to centre field that plated Hallquist and Doersching to give the Milkmen and 11-run lead at 12-1. Boxscore The Goldeyes opened the scoring just three batters into the ballgame when centre fielder Adam Hall lined a single into right field to bring home third baseman Ramón Bramasco . Neither team would cross the plate again until Milwaukee catcher Chase Waddell hit a two-run home run to right field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 2-1 Milkmen. Milwaukee added a run in the eighth on right fielder Baron Radcliff’s single to centre that drove in centre fielder Alec Olund. Winnipeg threatened in the final frame and pulled within one when left fielder Jiandido Tromp lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Hall to score. However, one batter later, shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder popped out to end the ballgame. Starter Noah Millikan was spectacular for the Goldeyes, allowing just three hits and striking out six over five innings of work. He walked just one batter. Ryo Kohigashi , Derrick Cherry (L, 0-1), and Kevin Vaupel each pitched an inning of relief. Juan Díaz was equally effective for the Milkmen. He went six innings and gave up one earned run on three hits while striking out three and issuing two free passes. The Goldeyes took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run bloop single to centre field by Jiandido Tromp with two out in the top of the first inning. Adam Hall and Ramón Bramasco scored on the play. Lake Country responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Joshua Mears hit a two-run home run to left field to tie the game. Two batters later, Ray Zuberer III hit a round-tripper to left that put the home side up 3-2. Winnipeg tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third when Kevin García crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Hall. It was all Lake Country after that though, beginning with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the third inning. First, Brett Roberts hit a one-out, solo home run to left-centre to make it 4-3 DockHounds, then Ripken Reyes went back-to-back with a homer to right field. The Goldeyes jumped out to an early lead when right fielder Noah Marcelo – the game’s first batter – reached on an error and later scored on centre fielder Adam Hall ’s sacrifice fly to centre. It was all Kane County after that, however. In the bottom of the first inning designated hitter Todd Lott brought second baseman Zane Spinn home with a base hit to tie the ballgame and first baseman Alex McGarry singled off the first base bag to drive in centre fielder Matt Bottcher to make it 2-1. In the fourth Cougars shortstop Sam Dexter hit a ball to shallow centre field that dropped between Hall and shortstop Ramón Bramasco . Two runs scored on the play, increasing Kane County’s lead to 4-1. Dexter would then come home on right fielder Armond Upshaw’s single up the middle to make it 5-1 Cougars. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the eighth when Upshaw notched his second run batted in of the day with a two-out single that brought in Dexter, giving the home side a 6-1 lead. Luke Boyd started for Winnipeg and worked the first two innings. ROSEMONT, IL – The Winnipeg Goldeyes made the most of a visit to hitter-friendly Impact Field Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 15-5 pre-season victory over the Chicago Dogs. Raphaël Pelletier hit his second home run of the spring – a three-run blast in the third, while Roby Enríquez added a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Other big swings on the day for Winnipeg included a two-run single by Ramón Bramasco in the fourth and a two-run double by Ray-Patrick Didder in the eighth. All but two Goldeyes drove in at least one run. Chicago hit three long balls of their own, two coming off the bat of Brian Fuentes. CJ Cepicky added a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Right-hander Landen Bourassa , expected to be Winnipeg’s Opening Day starter, worked the first two innings before giving way to the Southpaw Syndicate of Ryo Kohigashi , Mitchell Lambson , Kevin Vaupel , and Quinn Waterhouse . Keshawn Lynch and Kevin García worked back-to-back bases-loaded walks off Fargo-Moorhead reliever Jon Beymer (L, 0-1) in the final inning to put the Goldeyes ahead. Winnipeg scored twice in the opening frame after Noah Marcelo came in on a Ramón Bramasco single and Adam Hall trotted home on Max Murphy ’s sacrifice fly. The RedHawks moved ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning when Juan Fernández hit a three-run home run. The Goldeyes tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth on a lead off blast by Roby Enríquez and took a 4-3 lead in the seventh after T.J. Schofield-Sam singled and scored on Ray-Patrick Didder ’s base hit. Fargo-Moorhead went ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jake Hjelle and Andy Nelson scored on Weston Lombard ’s throwing error. The pre-season contest was called after five innings owing to the unseasonably cold temperatures and windy conditions. Winnipeg opened the scoring in the third inning when rookie catcher Raphaël Pelletier homered down the right field line, giving the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead. The RedHawks tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by catcher Juan Fernández that brought right fielder Andy Nelson in to score. Pelletier struck again in the fifth, driving in left fielder Keshawn Lynch with a single that made the score Winnipeg 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1. Pelletier then scored on centre fielder Noah Marcelo ’s single that increased the Goldeyes’ lead to 3-1. In the home half of what would be the final inning, Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs without the benefit of a hit. Fernández notched his second run batted in of the evening with a sacrifice fly that drove in third baseman Aidan Byrne. Nelson came in on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.
