Special pre-game ceremonies will highlight the Royal Canadian Legion’s history, service and lasting impact across the country. The program will include videos representing 100 years of the Legion, tributes to Legion members and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and a ceremonial opening pitch. The Goldeyes invite fans to arrive early and be in their seats for the pre-game presentation as Blue Cross Park recognizes the generations of Canadians who have served their country and the organization that continues to advocate for and support them. Representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund will also attend the game and host an activation on the Blue Cross Park concourse. Luke Boyd (W, 8-3) went the distance for Winnipeg, allowing one run on six hits. The reigning American Association Pitcher of the Week struck out four and walked two. Brendan Roberts (L, 1-2) started for the Dogs and exited after 4 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs—two earned—on five hits while striking out one and issuing one walk. Chicago also struck first in the nightcap, with designated hitter Aaron Altherr hitting a two-out, two-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning to give the Dogs an early 2-0 lead. The Goldeyes wasted no time responding. In the bottom of the inning, Bramasco doubled down the left-field line to drive in Didder and reduce the deficit to 2-1. After left fielder Adam Hall walked, centre fielder Noah Marcelo singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Bramasco and tie the ballgame. Second baseman Keshawn Lynch then gave Winnipeg the lead with a sacrifice fly to centre field that allowed Hall to score from third, making it 3-2. Lynch drove in two more runs in the third when he lined a base hit to left that brought home Hall and Marcelo, extending the Goldeyes’ lead to three runs. Winnipeg made it 7-2 in the fifth inning. Enríquez doubled down the right-field line to plate Marcelo before Lynch scored on Murphy’s groundout to third. Chicago replied with two runs in the top of the sixth. DiGiacomo singled up the middle to score right fielder Zack Stokes before first baseman Tyreque Reed came home on left fielder Jacob Maiben’s groundout to third, reducing the Goldeyes’ lead to 7-4. Quinn Waterhouse (W, 2-2), the second Winnipeg reliever of the game, was awarded the win in a scorer’s decision. Aidan Newton started for the Goldeyes and went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two. He was followed out of the bullpen by Arij Fransen , Waterhouse, Eli Saul , and Derrick Cherry (S, 13). The four-game series continues Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., when left-hander Kevin Vaupel (2-5, 6.02 ERA) will start for the Goldeyes. The Dogs are expected to send right-hander Dominic Guzmán (0-2, 4.38 ERA) to the mound.
