Goldeyes Tie League Home Run Mark with Barrage in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (2-5) powered their way to a dominant 10-3 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs (5-1) Thursday night at Legends Field, tying an American Association record with seven home runs.
Catcher Kevin García got Winnipeg on the board in the second inning with a two-run double. The Goldeyes extended the lead in the third with Matt Warkentin’s solo shot – his first of the season.
Kansas City responded with home runs from Peyton Holt and Álvaro González to tie the game 3-3 through four innings.
From there, Winnipeg’s bats exploded. Ramón Bramasco and Max Murphy each homered in the fifth. Tanner O’Tremba and Evan Alexander went back-to-back in the sixth, and Ray-Patrick Didder launched a two-run blast in the eighth. Alexander capped the night with his second homer in the ninth, bringing the total to seven long balls.
Mitchell Lambson (1-0) earned the win, allowing three earned runs over six innings while striking out five. Relievers Ryder Yakel and Trevor Brigden combined for eight strikeouts over the final three innings, with Brigden fanning the side in the ninth.
Kansas City starter Jackson Goddard (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs and three homers in four innings.
The Goldeyes wrap up their 10-game road trip this weekend in Lincoln against the Saltdogs. Jesse Galindo (0-0, 1.80 ERA) starts Friday’s opener at 7:05 p.m. CDT, with Zachary Murray (0-0, 0.00 ERA) on the mound for Lincoln. Coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. on CJNU 93.7 FM and at cjnu.ca.
