KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 5-1 to the Kansas City T-Bones in a pre-season game at T-Bones Stadium on Monday night.
Kansas City scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and held the lead through the remainder of the night. Keith Curcio and Dexter Kjerstad opened the frame with singles to put runners on the corners. Kjerstad stole second, and Curcio scored the game’s first run when the ensuing throw bounced into centre field. Two batters later, Adam Brett Walker lined a triple to centre that scored Kjerstad. Walker then scored on Nick Torres’ groundout to shortstop.
Kjerstad launched a solo home run to left-centre leading off the bottom of the third to extend Kansas City’s lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Reynaldo Rodriguez tripled to left-centre and was driven home on a Reggie Abercrombie single to left.
Angel Rosa led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to left that accounted for the game’s final score.
Charle Rosario started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits over two innings. Rosario walked none and struck out two.
Kevin McGovern pitched five effective innings of relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out four. Victor Capellan struck out the side in order for the Goldeyes in the bottom of the eighth.
Hunter Adkins worked five innings in the start for the T-Bones and picked up the win. Adkins allowed one earned run on three hits, walked two, and struck out five.
