KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (34-26) lost 4-1 to the Kansas City T-Bones at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.
On the eighth pitch of his at bat, Chantz Mack led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right-centre that gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Jordan Ebert drew a leadoff walk and took second on a wild pitch. After Patrick Brady sacrificed Ebert to third, Wes Darvill tied the game with a groundball to first base.
Kyle Petty put the T-Bones back in front with a two-out, solo home run to left-centre in the bottom of the fourth.
It remained a one-run game until the bottom of the eighth when Kevin Keyes hit a two-run double to right.
T-Bones’ closer Cody Winiarski struck out two during a perfect top of the ninth to earn his 12th save of the year.
Edwin Carl (6-2) started for the Goldeyes and took a tough-luck loss. Carl allowed two earned runs on just two hits over six innings. Carl walked three and struck out five.
Chris Perry (3-2) started and won for the T-Bones, allowing one earned run on three hits in six innings. Perry walked one and struck out four.
Mitchell Lambson struck out the side during a scoreless seventh in relief of Carl. Lambson has allowed three earned runs in his last 22.0 innings. The Goldeyes’ pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts, and has struck out 21 batters over the first two games of the series. David Bergin had three hits for the Goldeyes and has reached base in 43 consecutive games.
