ST. PAUL, MN – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (18-15) lost 10-4 to the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field on Thursday night.

Tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Tim Colwell drew a one-out, full-count walk.  After Nate Hanson singled to left, Brady Shoemaker walked to load the bases.  Victor Capellan then relieved Goldeyes’ starting pitcher Zach Nuding and struck out Anthony Gallas for the second out of the inning.  With Tony Thomas at the plate, Colwell scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.  Thomas followed with a two-run single to left that scored Hanson and Shoemaker to make it 7-4 Saints.

St. Paul tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double from Colwell and RBI singles from Hanson and Gallas.

Seth Rosin pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to close out the game.

Andrew Sohn led off the game with a line drive single to centre.  Sohn took second on a single to right from David Rohm, advanced to third on a flyball to right by Josh Romanski, and scored the game’s first run on a Reggie Abercrombie sacrifice fly.

Mason Katz led off the top of the second with an opposite-field home run to right-centre that made it 2-0 Goldeyes.  Later in the inning, Sohn doubled to centre and scored on a two-out double down the right field line from Romanski.  Abercrombie followed with a sharp single through the left side that scored Romanski with Winnipeg’s fourth run.

The Saints started chipping away in the bottom of the third when Jon Kristoffersen tripled to centre and scored two batters later on a Danny Oh sacrifice fly.  Tony Thomas hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth that pulled St. Paul within one run at 4-3.

St. Paul reliever Brandon Peterson escaped a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top of the sixth.  Gallas then led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to centre that tied the game.

In the seventh, Peterson worked out of a first and third, no-out jam to keep the game tied, setting up the Saints’ go-ahead rally in the bottom half.

Nuding (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits in six and one-third innings.  Nuding walked four and struck out two.

Peterson (1-0) earned the win in relief with two scoreless innings.

Saints’ starter John Straka took a no-decision, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits in five-plus innings.  Straka walked four and struck out two.
