WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (26-19) lost 10-2 to the St. Paul Saints at Shaw Park on Friday night.
St. Paul took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Brady Shoemaker singled home Dan Motl. In the top of the second, Matt Morales hit a two-run double that made it 3-0.
The Goldeyes pulled within one run in the bottom of the second. Wes Darvill drew a leadoff walk and scored on a James Harris triple to right-centre. Kyle Martin hit a sacrifice fly in foul territory down the right field line that allowed Harris to score just ahead of second baseman Josh Allen’s throw.
The Saints (30-16) re-extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the third on solo home runs from John Silviano and Allen.
Morales led off the fourth with a single. Max Murphy, Motl, and Shoemaker then hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to make it 9-2.
Murphy led off the top of the sixth with a solo shot that provided the game’s final margin at 10-2.
Ryan Zimmerman (2-1) started for the Saints and picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on two hits in six innings. Zimmerman walked six and struck out five.
Parker French (2-2) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits in three-plus innings. French walked one and struck out two.
Joel Bender, Tyler Garkow, and Brandon Bingel combined to allow just one earned run in six innings of relief. Bingel worked three scoreless innings from the seventh through the ninth.
