GARY, IN – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-23) lost 4-2 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard on Saturday evening.

Andrew Sohn led off the top of the third with a line drive single to centre.  Sohn stole second base and scored the game’s first run when David Rohm ripped a double down the left field line.  Josh Romanskifollowed with an RBI single through the right side that made it 2-0 Goldeyes.

In the bottom of the inning, Cameron Newell reached on a leadoff error and took second on a single to right from Reggie Wilson.  Back-to-back groundouts to second from Colin Willis and Frank Martinez plated Newell to cut the Goldeyes’ lead to 2-1.

Ryan Fitzgerald doubled to left-centre with one out in the bottom of the fourth.  After John Holland blooped a single to centre, Chase Harris doubled down the left field to score Fizgerald with the tying run.  Newell followed with a double down the left field line that scored Holland and Harris to give the RailCats a 4-2 lead.

The Goldeyes brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth before former Major League right-hander Jorge de Leon won a nine-pitch battle with Romanski to record the final out.

RailCats’ starter Braulio Torres-Perez (5-2) earned the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in five innings.  Torres-Perez walked one and struck out six.

Goldeyes’ starter Zach Nuding (2-6) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits in six innings.  Nuding walked two and struck out two.

de Leon earned his fifth save of the year.

Kenny Mathews and Evan Rutckyj each worked a scoreless inning in relief of Nuding.  David Bergin had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
