Dan Motl drew a one-out walk in the top of the third and took second on a single to right-centre from Marr.  Burt Reynolds cut the Goldeyes’ lead in half with a single through the right side that scored Motl and advanced Marr to third.  McGovern prevented the Canaries from tying the game, picking off Reynolds while trying to steal second, and then striking out Aaron Gretz to strand Marr on third.

Michael Falsetti hit a solo home run leading off the top of the fifth.  McGovern bounced back and retired the next three hitters in a row, including strikeouts of Marr and Reynolds.

In the top of the sixth, Jabari Henry walked with one out, took third on a Patrick Fiala double down the left field line, and scored on a groundout to shortstop from Schmit.

The Goldeyes stretched the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Romanski lined a single to left-centre and scored on a double to the centre field wall from Pleffner.
