WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed catcher Rey Pastrana on Tuesday.
Pastrana is a true rookie who recently finished a four-year college career at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. The Havana, Cuba native hit .271 with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 57 games for the Thundering Herd this past spring as a senior. Defensively, the 22-year-old Pastrana did not allow a passed ball, and threw out an impressive 41 percent of opposing base stealers (24-for-59).
During his junior season in 2018, Pastrana earned Conference USA All-Conference honours after hitting .355 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 49 contests. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound backstop played for the Cape Cod League’s Cotuit Kettleers following his junior campaign.
On Monday, the Goldeyes released catcher Cody Young. The Goldeyes active roster currently stands at the American Association maximum 23 players.
