WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Cameron McVey from the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations.

McVey was 1-1 with three saves and a 1.62 ERA for the Saltdogs last season in 33.1 innings over 36 relief appearances.  The Glendora, California native struck out 48 batters, walked 13, and did not surrender a home run.  2017 marked the fifth consecutive professional season in which McVey finished with more strikeouts than innings pitched.  The 29-year-old right-hander ranked second in the American Association in ERA among pitchers with at least 30.0 innings, and did not allow an earned run in 32 of his 36 outings.

“I’m thrilled to have Cameron back on our roster,” said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney.  “Cameron has established himself as one of the better bullpen arms in the league over the last few seasons, and we’re hoping he can continue to lock down those late innings for us in the future.”

McVey is entering his seventh year of professional baseball and his fourth in the American Association.  The 6-foot-5, 205-pound McVey ranks ninth all-time in league history with 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings (minimum 100.0 innings pitched).  McVey was a member of the Goldeyes’ 2016 American Association championship club, and was re-signed by Winnipeg last year before being traded to Lincoln in May.  Lifetime, McVey is 10-10 with nine saves and a 3.38 ERA in 167 appearances, all of them in relief.  McVey was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 22nd round in 2011 out of Biola University in Glendora, California.

Additionally, the Goldeyes traded right-handed pitcher Ryan Chaffee to the Atlantic League’s Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in exchange for future considerations.  Chaffee was 3-3 with a 3.26 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 47.0 innings.  The veteran closer notched 21 saves which tied for second in the American Association and currently rank second on the Goldeyes’ single-season list.
