FARGO, ND – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-26) lost 9-1 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.
Tucker Nathans led off the game with a home run to left field. It was Nathans’ fourth homer in 15 games since joining the Goldeyes.
In the bottom of the third, Chris Jacobs led off with a double to right. Devan Ahart sacrificed Jacobs to third before Yhoxian Medina tied the game with an RBI single to centre. Tim Colwell followed with a triple to right-centre that scored Medina with the go-ahead run. After Colwell was erased on a rundown play on a Maikol Gonzalez groundball to third, Brennan Metzger drew a four-pitch walk. Leobaldo Pina followed with a two-out, three-run home run to left-centre that stretched Fargo’s lead to 5-1.
The RedHawks added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pina doubled down the left field line leading off and scored the RedHawks’ sixth run when Charlie Valerio doubled to left. After Keury de la Cruz reached on an error, Jacobs singled through the left side to load the bases with no outs. Ahart lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Valerio. Jack Charleston relieved Goldeyes’ starter Mitchell Lambson, and the RedHawks took an 8-1 lead when de la Cruz scored on a wild pitch. Medina then singled home Jacobs with the RedHawks’ final run.
RedHawks’ starter Sebastian Kessay (3-2) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on four hits in seven innings. Kessay walked two and struck out four.
Lambson (2-2) took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing nine runs, eight earned, on eight hits over five and one-third innings. Lambson walked three and struck out four.
Victor Capellan worked a scoreless bottom of the eighth for the Goldeyes.
A bench-clearing incident took place in the bottom of the seventh when Pina was hit by a pitch by Goldeyes’ reliever Cameron McVey.
