KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes beat the Kansas City T-Bones 4-1 in a spring training game at T-Bones Stadium on Tuesday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, David Bergin doubled off the wall in centre field leading off. Two batters later, Josh Mazzola grounded a double into the left field corner to score Bergin with the tying run. After Luis Paula relieved T-Bones’ starter Cody Dickson, Kevin Garcia—batting left-handed—jumped on the first pitch and lined a single to right field to drive in Mazzola.

Goldeyes’ starter Edwin Carl combined with reliever Brandon Bingel to work a scoreless bottom of the fifth to protect the lead. Bingel continued with a scoreless sixth and earned the win in relief.

After Jack Charleston pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh, the Goldeyes stretched their lead to 3-1 in the top of the eighth. Reynaldo Rodriguez picked up his fourth extra-base hit of the pre-season with a one-out double to right-centre. Reggie Abercrombie then reached on an infield single along the third base line that resulted in a throwing error by T-Bones’ reliever Sam Street. Rodriguez scored from second on the play.

In the top of the ninth, Jordan Ebert doubled to right-centre and scored on a single to right-centre by Mazzola that made it 4-1.

Kenny Mathews pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded, infield single by Nick Torres. Carl limited the damage, allowing just the one run after the T-Bones had loaded the bases with no outs.

Carl took a no-decision, allowing one earned run on four hits in four and one-third innings. Carl walked one and struck out four.

Cameron McVey worked a scoreless inning of relief for Winnipeg.

Dickson took the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in four and one-third innings. Dickson walked two and struck out five.
