WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 4-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in their spring training opener at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.

The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.  Joe DeLuca was hit by a pitch leading off and was doubled home by Patrick O’Donnell.

The Goldeyes answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  Matt McCann came back from an 0-2 count to draw a one-out walk.  Victor Cruzado followed with a line drive triple to left-centre that scored McCann with the tying run.  Ty Moore moved Winnipeg in front with an RBI groundout.  With two outs and no one on base, Reynaldo Rodriguez doubled to left and came home on a sharp single through the left side from Jose Sermo.

Devan Ahart tripled down the right field line leading off the fourth and scored on a groundout from Randolph Oduber that cut the Goldeyes’ lead to 3-2.

Fargo-Moorhead went in front for good in the top of the sixth when Charle Valerio hit a two-run double to centre.

Benji Waite earned the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits in five innings.  Waite walked two and struck out three.

Left-hander Anthony Pacillo worked two and one-third perfect innings in relief of Waite, while Andrew Woeck recorded the game’s final five outs to earn the save.

Kenny Mathews took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing two unearned runs in one relief inning.

Charle Rosario started for the Goldeyes and took a no-decision, allowing one earned run on one hit in three innings.  Rosario walked one, struck out three, and threw just 36 pitches in his three frames.

Zach Hartman struck out two during an inning of relief, while Marshall Pautsch, Ross Vance, Cody Strayer, and Jack Charleston each chipped in a scoreless inning.

The Goldeyes and RedHawks play again at Shaw Park on Wednesday evening.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.  Edwin Carl will start for the Goldeyes.
