SIOUX CITY, IA – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-8) lost 12-2 to the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park on Monday night.

The Explorers scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  With two outs and no one on base, a Noah Perio Jr. walk and a Nate Samson groundball single set up a two-run double to right-centre from Tommy Mendonca.  Jarek Cunningham followed with an RBI single to centre.  Including the first inning, the first nine of Sioux City’s 12 runs were scored with two outs.

Derek Robinson singled to left with two outs in the second.  Robinson stole second base and scored on Michael Lang’s triple to left-centre.

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the fifth, the Goldeyes loaded the bases with no outs.  Josh Romanski lifted a sacrifice fly to left to put Winnipeg on the board.  David Rohm followed with an RBI infield single that cut Sioux City’s lead to 4-2.

The Explorers got the two runs back in the bottom of the sixth.  With Robinson on second and two outs, Perio pulled a single to right.  Robinson scored, and Perio worked his way home on consecutive Goldeyes throwing errors.

Lang drew a two-out, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh that made it 7-2 Sioux City.  Perio followed with a two-run double to left that extended the lead to 9-2.

Ralph Henriquez hit a three-run double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth to account for the Explorers’ final tallies.

Duke von Schamann (1-2) took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits in five and two-thirds innings.  von Schamann walked two and struck out three.

Jordan Risse (2-0) picked up the win for Sioux City, allowing two earned runs on six hits over five innings.  Risse walked one and struck out five.

Maikol Gonzalez reached base four times for the Goldeyes, with a hit, two walks, and a hit by pitch.  Rohm and Adam Heisler each had multi-hit games.
