WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-15) lost 6-1 to the St. Paul Saints at Shaw Park on Sunday afternoon.

Chad Christensen opened the top of the third with a single through the left side and was sacrificed to second by Maxx Garrett.  After Alonzo Harris struck out, Breland Almadova extended the inning with an infield single, sending Christensen to third.  Nate Hanson followed with a two-out, RBI single to left that gave the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Tony Thomas and Willie Argo hit consecutive singles to start the inning, putting runners on first and third.  Tony Caldwell scored Thomas with a groundout to third.  Two batters later, Maxx Garrett lifted a two-out, RBI double to centre field that scored Argo with St. Paul’s third run.

Thomas walked leading off the sixth and scored on the next pitch when Argo doubled to deep right-centre.  Caldwell followed with a two-run home run down the left field line.  Caldwell hit three home runs and had 10 RBI in the three-game series.

Ridge Hoopi-Haslam started the bottom of the sixth inning with a single through the left side.  Hoopii-Haslam took second on a wild pitch and eventually scored the Goldeyes’ lone run on a two-out, RBI single to left from David Rohm.

Ethan Carnes (2-1) took the loss in his Goldeyes’ debut, allowing six earned runs on nine hits in five-plus innings.  Carnes walked one and struck out four.

Kody Knaus (2-1) earned the win for the Saints (22-9), allowing one earned run on five hits in six innings.  Knaus walked two and struck out two.

The Goldeyes’ bullpen combined for four scoreless innings in relief of Carnes.  Brandon Shimo recorded three outs in the sixth, while Conor Spink and Kyle Lotzkar combined for a scoreless seventh.  Cameron McVey struck out one during a shutout eighth.  Jailen Peguero fanned one, and did not allow a run in the ninth.

The series marked only the second time the Saints have swept the Goldeyes at Shaw Park since the ballpark opened in 1999.  The other came in 2012 from August 17th-19th.

The Goldeyes take Monday off, and open a three-game road series against the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday night.  Mikey O’Brien and Saltdogs’ right-hander Matt Larkins are the projected starting pitchers.  First pitch from Haymarket Park is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.  All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU and worldwide at
