With the win, the Goldeyes clinched the American Association North Division. The Goldeyes are 5.0 games ahead of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with four games left in the regular season. It is the 19th postseason berth in the team’s 24-year history, and the third time the Goldeyes have won the North Division since joining the American Association in 2011.

Edwin Carl (9-4) picked up the win, pitching seven shutout innings on just four hits. Carl walked one and struck out eight. After Reggie Abercrombie walked, Shawn Pleffner singled through the right side to score Romanski with the game’s first run. David Berginfollowed with an RBI single that scored Abercrombie. Wes Darvill made it 3-0 with a groundout to first in which Pleffner beat Dan Johnson’s return throw to the plate. Mason Katz hit a two-run home run to left on the 10th pitch of his at bat that stretched the lead to 5-0.

Mitchell Lambson worked a scoreless bottom of the eighth in relief of Carl, while Victor Capellan pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win.

Goldeyes’ pitchers combined for nine strikeouts, giving the staff 729 on the season. The 729 strikeouts are a new franchise record, breaking the previous mark of 722 that had stood since 1997.

Katz has hit safely in nine games in a row.
