GARY, IN – Thursday night’s game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Gary SouthShore RailCats was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Goldeyes leading 2-0.
Thursday’s game will resume at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening and will be completed as a nine-inning contest. Friday’s regularly scheduled game has been shortened to seven innings.
With two outs and no one on base in the top of the first, Josh Romanski came back from a 1-2 count to draw a walk. Reggie Abercrombie bounced a single up the middle that sent Romanski to third. Abercrombie advanced to second when centre fielder Chase Harris threw to third base. Shawn Pleffner singled up the middle to drive in Romanski and Abercrombie and give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.
Goldeyes’ starting pitcher Kevin McGovern worked three and one-third scoreless innings before the game was delayed. McGovern walked one and struck out one. The start was McGovern’s 100th career appearance as a professional, and the left-hander reached 500.0 career innings pitched after recording the first out in the bottom of the second.
Play will resume in the bottom of the fourth with Cameron Newell on first base and one out.
