WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed left-handed pitcher Chris Cotton on Monday afternoon.

Cotton made five relief appearances earlier this season in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ organization, including three games for the Double-A Texas League’s Tulsa Drillers. The Shreveport, Louisiana native was a combined 1-2 with two saves and a 3.70 ERA last season in the Houston Astros’ system. Cotton struck out 37 and walked 17 in 65.2 innings while reaching the Triple-A level for a second time in his career.

Cotton was drafted by the Astros in the 14th round in 2013 out of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he was a college teammate of Goldeyes’ utility player Mason Katz. The 5-foot-10, 166-pound Cotton is in his fifth season of professional baseball and owns a 9-12 career record with 15 saves a 3.24 ERA in 132 appearances, 124 of them in relief. In 2015, the Astros assigned Cotton to the Arizona Fall League where he struck out 10 batters in just seven and two-thirds innings. The 26-year-old left-hander has averaged just 2.1 walks per nine innings during his career.

The Goldeyes now have 21 players on their active roster, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.
