WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed left-handed pitcher Evan Rutckyj on Tuesday afternoon.

Rutckyj (pronounced ROOT-skee) is a Canadian-born left-hander who made one appearance earlier this season for the Double-A Eastern League’s Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees).  The Windsor, Ontario native combined for a 3.60 ERA in 10.0 innings pitched last season at three levels of the Yankees’ farm system.  Rutckyj has pitched at the Double-A level three times in his career, and was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the Major League phase of the Rule V Draft in December of 2015.

Rutckyj was drafted by the Yankees in the 16th round in 2010 out of St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in St. Thomas, Ontario.  The 25-year-old Rutckyj joins the Goldeyes with a 32-25 career record with two saves and a 4.13 ERA in 140 games, 90 of them in relief.  The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Rutckyj has held left-handed batters to a .242 average during his eight-year professional career.  Rutckyj has also held the opposition to a .230 average with runners in scoring position (756 at bats) and a .189 average with two outs and runners in scoring position (222 at bats).  Rutckyj played for the Canadian Junior National Team in 2009.

The Goldeyes placed right-handed pitcher Edwin Carl on the Disabled List, retroactive to June 24th.  The Goldeyes’ active roster stands at 21 players, including 11 pitchers and 12 position players.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open a three-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight.  First pitch from Shaw Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
