FARGO, ND – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (40-29) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 3-1 at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.

Box Score

The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Brennan Metzger tripled to left-centre with one out and scored on a Tim Colwell single to centre.

Reggie Abercrombie led off the top of the fifth with a home run to left-centre that tied the game.

In the top of the sixth, James Harris singled to centre with one out and advanced to second when Kyle Martin walked.  Two batters later, Abercrombie pulled a two-out single to left-centre that plated Harris with the go-ahead run.

Carlos Garcia and Harris opened the top of the eighth with back-to-back singles.  Martin hit a groundball to first that set up second and third with one out.  After the RedHawks intentionally walked Dominic Ficociello, Abercrombie beat out a potential inning-ending double play on a groundball to second.  Garcia scored to make it 3-1.

Devan Ahart singled with one out in the bottom of the eight to bring the tying run to the plate.  After Cameron McVey relieved Goldeyes’ starter Mitchell Lambson, Kevin Garcia threw out Ahart trying to steal second.  McVey then struck out Chris Jacobs to end the frame.

Victor Capellan pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth to earn his 23rd save of the year, which sets a new Goldeyes’ single-season record.

Lambson (9-2) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on five hits in seven and one-third innings.  Lambson walked two and struck out nine.  It was the 11th time in 15 starts this season in which Lambson pitched at least seven innings, and the fifth time he has struck out nine batters or more.

Bret Helton (3-5) started for the RedHawks and took the loss, allowing one earned run on five hits in five and two-thirds innings.  Helton walked two and struck out five.

Harris had three hits and has hit safely in nine straight games.

The win pulls the Goldeyes within 3.5 games of the RedHawks for first place in the North Division.
