WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes, in conjunction with Manitoba Pork, will host “Bacon Night II” at Shaw Park on Wednesday, August 17th when the Goldeyes take on the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m.
Following the spectacular premiere of “Bacon Night” in 2015, the Goldeyes and Manitoba Pork are excited to celebrate Bacon Month with a sizzling sequel.
The festivities begin as soon as fans arrive at the ballpark. A delicious barbecued pork on a bun with bacon marmalade and pop will be available for just $5 with proceeds going towards the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation.
During the game, Goldeyes’ players will don special bacon-print jerseys. The specialty uniforms will be auctioned off in support of the Field of Dreams foundation at a later date. The jerseys come with matching bacon-themed hats. Fans can purchase their own authentic version of the bacon hat, as well as a specially designed “Bacon Night” t-shirt, at The Dugout Souvenir Store. The t-shirts feature the Goldeyes’ “angry fish” logo transformed into an “angry pig.”
“Bacon Night was a great success last year, and the Goldeyes’ organization is very excited to continue its partnership with Manitoba Pork in such a fun way,” said Goldeyes’ general manager Andrew Collier. “In a short time, this promotion has become a fan-favourite, and we look forward to all of the bacon-themed goodness in a couple of weeks!”
Several bacon-inspired food items will be available at Shaw Park throughout the night, including a bacon poutine from Goldie’s Grill, and Bacon Goldie Dogs from the Goldie Dogs concession stand. Bacon Caesars will be available at the various beverage stations on the concourse. Fans can also enjoy Maple Bacon Cupcakes, courtesy of Cakeology, and Boston Pizza’s Meateor Pizza. Each fan that purchases a bacon-themed food item or beverage receives an enter-to-win ballot for a Goldeyes’ bacon jersey. Fans can sign up during the game to win bacon for a year.
“Bacon makes it better,” said Susan Riese , Manitoba Pork’s Manager of Public Relations and Consumer Marketing. “Winnipeg is the bacon-making capital of Canada, so that’s why we’re celebrating our third annual Bacon Month throughout August with special events like Goldeyes’ Bacon Night.”
Each fan can participate in a “Spell Bacon” scavenger hunt. Fans will be encouraged to look around Shaw Park to find the letters B–A–C–O–N and identify their locations. The first correct entry drawn from the ballot box receives a bacon-themed gift basket. The gift basket includes a case of bacon, courtesy of Manitoba Pork. Stress pigs will be tossed into the stands between innings, and the popular “Bet Your Bacon” on-field promotion features enhanced prizes.
