WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes’ centre fielder Reggie Abercrombie has been named the American Association’s Batter of the Week for August 5th-11th.

In seven games played last week—in which the Goldeyes were 5-2—Abercrombie was 10-for-30 (.333) with 10 runs scored, two home runs, and six RBI.  The Columbus, Georgia native had three hits with two runs and two RBI in an 11-6 win versus Lincoln on Wednesday before capping his week with a four-hit, two-homer performance on Saturday in a 13-9 win at Milwaukee.

With 12 home runs on the season, Abercrombie now has 88 during his six years with the Goldeyes, which trails Josh Mazzola (90 home runs) by just two for the franchise’s all-time record.  Abercrombie set the Goldeyes’ career RBI record on July 3rd versus Fargo-Moorhead.

Over the course of 2019, Abercrombie became the first player in American Association history to play 10 seasons in the league.  The 39-year-old outfielder has also established league career marks for games played (694th on May 29th versus Gary SouthShore) and runs scored (530th on July 24th versus Texas).  Entering this season, Abercrombie already held the American Association records for base hits (2018), home runs (2016), and RBI (2017).

The Goldeyes open a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints tonight at CHS Field.  First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.  All-star Mitchell Lambson (10-2, 3.09) faces all-star right-hander Eddie Medina (7-1, 2.56).  All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU and worldwide at
