Situation

Why are there no games?

Due to ongoing provincial and federal regulations pertaining to the size of gatherings and cross-border travel, the Goldeyes announced that the club will not host games at Shaw Park in 2020.

What is going to happen instead?

The Winnipeg Goldeyes will participate in the American Association’s 2020 season, which will feature six teams, 60-games each, fans in attendance. All games will be played in four hub/host cities. The full schedule is here.

Which teams are participating?

Chicago Dogs
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks
Milwaukee Milkmen
St. Paul Saints
Sioux Falls Canaries
Winnipeg Goldeyes

Where are the host/hub cities?

Fargo, ND (hub/home for Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Winnipeg Goldeyes)
Franklin, WI (home for Milwaukee Milkmen)
Rosemont, IL (home for Chicago Dogs)
Sioux Falls, SD (hub/home for Sioux Falls Canaries and St. Paul Saints)

What are they doing to keep players, staff, fans safe?

The American Association teams participating in the 2020 season were based on cities allowing for fans in attendance at stadiums, geography, and the COVID-19 restrictions that persist in certain American Association cities.

Each team and stadium will have in place and enforce COVID Readiness Plans, approved by local Health Departments and Government Officials. Stadiums will be configured to return to play with limited capacity in order to allow for safe social distancing while enjoying a live, professional baseball game.

When does this start?

Regular season starts on Friday, July 3

When does this end?

Regular season ends on Thursday, September 10.

How will they determine a champion?

A five-game American Association Finals pitting the top two teams from the regular season.

Will that come with an asterisk?

Good question, depends who wins.

Will there be spring training?

Spring training will start on June 25.

How will the teams be built?

The American Association will experiment with new roster rules in 2020, highlighted by the elimination of rookie, LS, and veteran minimums and maximums on rosters, and a draft of players from non-participating clubs to allow the best possible talent available to play this season.

What happens to the other teams in the league?

They’ll be back in 2021.

Games

Can we attend these games?

Tickets will be available through the respective hub/host city ballparks. The Goldeyes do not have access to any tickets for these games.
