WINNIPEG, MB – The Inside Pitch, the official radio show of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, returns to airwaves on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. on 93.7 FM CJNU.
February’s guest panel includes Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney, first baseman David Bergin, right-handed pitcher Ryan Chaffee, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks’ pitching coach Michael Schlact, and St. Paul Saints’ broadcaster Sean Aronson.
Forney heads into his 12th season as Goldeyes’ manager, and his 21st overall within the organization. During his first 11 seasons at the helm, Forney has guided the club to an overall .550 winning percentage, nine winning seasons, eight playoff appearances, and American Association championships in 2012 and 2016. Last year, the Goldeyes became only the second team in league history to win multiple championships, and the first since the Fort Worth Cats won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.
Bergin was acquired from the Saints on February 6th as part of a three-way trade with the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Bergin ranked fifth in the American Association last year with 19 home runs and tied for fifth with 71 RBI.
Chaffee was signed by the Goldeyes on February 13th, and is a former third round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Chaffee split time at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2016, and has averaged more than a strikeout per inning during his eight-year professional career.
Schlact heads into his third season as RedHawks’ pitching coach. The RedHawks staff set an American Association record with 838 strikeouts last year. In 2015, Fargo-Moorhead became only the second team in league history to feature three pitchers with 100-plus strikeouts. Schlact reached the Double-A level four times during a 10-year playing career, and was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the third round in 2004.
Aronson has been the “Voice of the Saints” since 2007, and was named Ballpark Digest’s 2016 Broadcaster of the Year. Aronson called his 1,000th Saints game last September, and is the founder of the “Voice Behind the Voice,” a podcast that spotlights the careers of broadcasters at the highest levels of sports.
