WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (45-32) lost 3-1 to the Wichita Wingnuts at Shaw Park on Friday night.

With the Goldeyes leading 1-0 in the top of the eighth inning, the Wingnuts rallied for three runs to take the lead.  Brennen Salgado reached on a leadoff infield single and scored the tying run when Leo Vargas doubled to right-centre.  Tyler Sullivan followed with a soft line drive single to left that scored Vargas with the go-ahead run.  Christian Stringer added an RBI double to left-centre that scored Sullivan.

Mike Devine relieved Wingnuts’ starter Jordan Cooper in the bottom of the eighth and worked a scoreless inning.  Ryan Kussmaul followed with a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the year.

The Goldeyes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Andrew Sohn ripped a leadoff double to left field.  Sohn advanced to third on a groundball from David Rohm and scored on a single down the left field line from Josh Romanski.

Charle Rosario took a no-decision in his Goldeyes’ debut, pitching seven shutout innings on just one hit.  Rosario walked three, struck out seven, and threw 126 pitches.  Rosario held the Wingnuts hitless until Brent Clevlen singled on a groundball up the middle with two outs in the top of the sixth.  After Clevlen’s hit, Rosario won a 16-pitch battle with TJ Mittelstaedt.  Mittelstaedt fouled off 10 pitches after the count went to two strikes before Rosario recorded a strikeout.  Rosario also retired the leadoff batter in each of his seven innings.

Cooper (6-1) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on five hits in seven innings.  Cooper walked none and struck out four.

Mitchell Lambson (5-3) took the loss in relief for the Goldeyes.

Kenny Mathews struck out two during a perfect top of the ninth inning for Winnipeg.
