WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes are proud to announce that outfielder Josh Romanski’s contract has been purchased by the Minnesota Twins’ organization.

Romanski becomes the third Goldeye signed by a Major League club this off-season and the 69th in franchise history.  In January, catcher Tanner Murphy was purchased by the Colorado Rockies, while first baseman Jacob Rogers signed with the Texas Rangers with the intention of becoming a right-handed pitcher.

Romanski batted .305 with nine home runs and 64 RBI in 91 games played for the Goldeyes last year.  A native of Anaheim, California, Romanski ranked third in the American Association with 60 walks, and finished the season with a .409 on-base percentage.  Romanski capped off one of the Goldeyes’ biggest wins of the year with a 10th-inning, walk-off home run against the St. Paul Saints on August 16th.  The game was the completion of a suspended contest from July, and saw the Goldeyes come all the way back from a 9-1 deficit.

Originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round in 2008 out of the University of San Diego, the majority of Romanski’s professional career was spent as a left-handed pitcher in the New York Yankees’ organization.  Romanski, who also bats left-handed, compiled a 19-15 record on the mound with a 3.63 ERA and 229 strikeouts in 275.1 professional innings.  The 30-year-old Romanski pitched at the Double-A level in three different seasons, and reached as high as Triple-A in 2013.

Romanski converted to the outfield with the Gary SouthShore RailCats in 2014 where he hit .311 with seven home runs and 60 RBI over 96 contests.  The campaign earned Romanski an overseas opportunity with the Japanese Industrial League’s Mitsubishi club.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Romanski is expected to attend to either Double-A or Triple-A camp when players report to Major League spring training later this month.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open the 2017 season on May 18th on the road against the expansion Cleburne Railroaders.  The Goldeyes’ 2017 home opener is Monday, May 29th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries at Shaw Park.  Season tickets, 10-game mini packs, and group outings for the 2017 season are on sale now.  For more information, call the Goldeyes’ office at (204) 982-BASE, or visit the Goldeyes’ official website at www.goldeyes.com
