FARGO, ND — The Winnipeg Goldeyes (52-35) lost 9-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Monday night.

RedHawks starting pitcher Will Solomon earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out five through seven shutout innings. Solomon retired 12 Goldeyes in a row at one point.

Goldeyes’ starter Edwin Carl (8-4, 4.58) took the loss, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs, walking one and striking out six through five innings pitched.

The RedHawks scored three runs in the bottom of the third, Devan Ahart scored on a two-out wild pitch from Carl, Chris Grayson drove home Yhoxian Medina on an RBI double to left-centre field and scored one-batter later on a Josh Mazzola single that gave the RedHawks the 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brandon Tierney drove in Trever Adams on a two-out single to left field. In the fifth Medina scored on a Charlie Valerio single to centre, Keury De La Cruz hit a three-run home run to right field, and Ahart hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth that extended the RedHawks lead to 9-0.

In the top of the ninth, Jordan Ebert and Shawn Pleffner hit back-to-back singles up the middle, David Bergin hit an RBI single to left field that scored Ebert, Wes Darvill singled to right field to bring home Pleffner, and Tanner DeVinny hit an RBI single to left field that scored Bergin. Six consecutive hits from the Goldeyes trimmed the RedHawks lead to 9-3.

DeVinny’s single was his first base hit and RBI of his professional career.

The Goldeyes return home on Tuesday, August 22nd when they host the Sioux City Explorers. Goldeyes’ left-hander Zack Dodson (5-6, 5.17) will face the Explorer’s Cody Forsythe (4-8, 5.95).
