WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Chaffee on Monday afternoon.

Chaffee pitched all of last season in the Miami Marlins’ organization, posting a 2-3 record with two saves and a 4.05 ERA in 31 relief appearances.  The veteran right-hander saw time with the Double-A Southern League’s Jacksonville Suns and the Triple-A Pacific Coast League’s New Orleans Zephyrs.  In 46.2 combined innings, Chaffee struck out 42 batters while allowing just two home runs.  2017 marked the fourth time in which Chaffee reached the Triple-A level.  The Bellevue, Nebraska native worked more than one inning in 15 of his 31 appearances.

“I’m very pleased to add Ryan to our club,” said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney.  “Ryan is a valuable and experienced power arm that I feel will be a great asset to our pitching staff.”

Chaffee was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the third round in 2008 out of Chipola College in Marianna, Florida.  During his eight-year professional career, Chaffee is 35-33 with 11 saves and a 4.87 ERA in 58 starts and 202 relief outings.  Chaffee–who will turn 29 on Opening Night–has 578 career strikeouts in 569.0 innings pitched for a lifetime average of 9.1 strikeouts per nine frames.  Chaffee spent the first three years of his career as a starting pitcher, logging 100.0 or more innings from 2009-11.  In addition to his Triple-A experience, Chaffee has reached the Double-A level four times where he owns a combined 2.85 ERA.  As a freshman at Chipola in 2007, Chaffee pitched a complete game five-hitter to lead the Indians to their first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship.

The Goldeyes now have 18 players under contract for the 2017 season.  American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which begins May 6th.
