ST. PAUL, MN – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (17-18) lost 12-11 in 10 innings to the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field on Saturday night.

Box Score

With the Goldeyes leading 11-10, the Saints rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the game.  Angelo Songco singled down the right field line with one out, advanced to second on a walk by Tony Thomas, and scored the tying run on Willie Argo’s single to left.  Tony Caldwell walked to load the bases before Thomas was forced out at the plate on a grounder to third from Breland Almadova.  Jailen Peguero then struck out pinch hitter Aaron Gretz.  The third strike bounced to the backstop and allowed Argo to score the winning run.

The Goldeyes had taken the lead in the top of the inning when Josh Romanski ripped a two-out, RBI single down the right field line that scored Maikol Gonzalez.

Winnipeg jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second.  Reggie Abercrombie doubled off the right field wall leading off and scored on Jacob Rogers’ groundball single to centre.  After Casio Grider doubled off the wall in centre, Ridge Hoopii-Haslam singled sharply up the middle to drive in two more runs.  Later in the inning, Wes Darvill added a line drive, two-run single to right-centre.

The Saints started climbing back in the bottom of the second.  Thomas doubled to right and scored on a base hit to centre from Argo.  After Caldwell walked, Breland Almadova singled on a soft line drive to right-centre to cut the lead to 5-2.  Maxx Garrett lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored St. Paul’s third run.

In the top of the third, Hoopii-Haslam helped re-extend the lead to 7-3 with a two-out, two-run homer into the Saints’ bullpen in left-centre.

The Saints (26-10) answered with three runs in the bottom half on a solo homer to right from Soncgo and a two-run shot off the batter’s eye in centre by Almadova.

The Goldeyes added three more in the top of the fourth.  With the bases loaded and one out, Rogers doubled to centre field to plate David Rohm and Romanski.  Carlton Tanabetacked on a two-out, RBI single to give Winnipeg a 10-6 lead.

Goldeyes’ relievers Brandon Shimo, Kyle Anderson, and Kyle Lotzkar held the lead through seven innings before the Saints rallied for four runs in the eighth to tie the game.  A hit batter, walk, and error loaded the bases with no outs.  After Garrett was struck out, Alonzo Harris doubled down the left field line to bring the Saints within 10-8.  Two batters later Nate Hanson tied the game on a two-out, two-run groundball single to left.

Peguero (2-3) took the loss in relief, while Caleb Thielbar (2-1) earned the win in relief for St. Paul.

Ethan Carnes started for Winnipeg and took a no-decision.  Carnes allowed three earned runs on four hits in one and two-thirds innings, walking two and striking out none.

Kody Knaus started for the Saints and also took a no-decision.  Knaus allowed five earned runs on seven hits in one and one-third innings.  Knaus walked one and struck out none.
