WINNIPEG, MB – Thanks to the terrific support from Winnipeg Goldeyes fans and Manitoba’s Ukrainian community, the Winnipeg Goldeyes are proud to announce their third annual Ukrainian Celebration on Wednesday, July 20th when the club takes on the St. Paul Saints.

First pitch on July 20th is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Shaw Park.

This season’s Ukrainian Celebration intertwines with two significant milestones.  2016 is the 125th anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada, as well as the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

The fun begins with “Sloohai” performing outside on the Winnipeg Free Press stage at 6:00 p.m.  Fans will also have the opportunity to ‘polka on the promenade.’  The “Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus” is set perform the national anthems, while the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble will entertain fans on the field throughout the night.IMG_3478

“I am thrilled to see the Goldeyes’ commemoration of Ukrainians in Canada,” said Denys Volkov , a community organizer.  “More importantly for me is the Goldeyes’ committment to donating a portion of ticket sales to help provide medical assistance in Ukraine.”

The night includes a variety of Ukrainian music, dance, and cultural displays.  Wednesday’s game also features contests and prizes, including a special “Go Goldeyes” perogy eating contest, courtesy of Sevala’s Ukrainian Deli.

There will be an important fundraising aspect with $4 from each $16, $19, or $22 ticket sold being donated to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council.  Fans can support the initiative when ordering tickets at www.ticketmaster.ca by using the promotional code “Ukraine.”  Additionally, $4 from each specially designed “Goldeyes Ukrainian Celebration” t-shirt sold will be donated to the Congress to help purchase medical supplies for Ukraine.

Sevala’s will also be offering a delicious Chicken Kiev dinner for $15, with $7.50 from each dinner sold being donated to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.  The Kiev dinner includes a Chicken Kiev, meatballs and gravy, cabbage rolls, Sevala’s famous perogies, and a small piece of Ukrainian cheese cake for your sweet tooth.  Come early, come hungry!
