WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes, in conjunction with Manitoba Pork and TSN 1290, are hosting Bacon Night at Shaw Park on Friday, August 25th when the Goldeyes take on the Sioux Falls Canaries.
First pitch for Bacon Night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Festivities begin on the promenade as fans make their way into the ballpark. For just $5, you can enjoy a delicious barbecued smoked Manitoba pork loin inside a fresh baked white or whole wheat bun. The pork loin is served with a choice of toppings, including bacon marmalade, plus a soda. Proceeds from the barbecue will be donated to the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation. Live entertainment will also be featured on the Casinos of Winnipeg stage.
“Bacon still makes it better,” said Susan Riese, Manitoba Pork’s Manager of Public Relations and Consumer Marketing. “Winnipeg is the nation’s bacon capital, not just for production, but also consumption.”
During the game, Goldeyes’ players will wear special bacon-print jerseys, which will be auctioned off in support of the Field of Dreams Foundation at a later date. The jerseys will be complemented with matching bacon hats. The bacon hats and specially designed Bacon Night t-shirts will be sold at the Goldeyes’ Dugout Souvenir Store.
“Bacon Night has become a fan favourite, and we’re looking forward to all of the bacon-themed goodness planned for August 25th,” said Goldeyes’ general manager Andrew Collier.
Throughout the night, select concessions will offer bacon-themed food options, including Bacon Poutine and Bacon Goldie Dogs (Goldie’s Grill), Bacon Perogies (Mr. Perogie), Bacon Caesars (various beverage stations), Maple Bacon Cupcakes, and Meateor Pizza with Bacon (Boston Pizza). Each fan that purchases a bacon-themed food or beverage item will receive an enter-to-win ballot for their very own Goldeyes’ bacon-themed jersey.
“I have always been a huge proponent of bacon awareness, and must commend the Winnipeg Goldeyes in their efforts to do the same,” said Andrew ‘Hustler’ Paterson from TSN 1290. “I look forward to bringing the sizzle to my opening pitch, and am honoured to be an official ‘HAMbassador’ for the evening.”
Each fan can participate in a “Spell B-A-C-O-N” scavenger hunt. The first correct entry drawn from the ballot box receives a bacon-themed gift basket, courtesy of Manitoba Pork. Prior to the game, “Bacon Makes it Better” t-shirts will be propelled into the stands by the Goldeyes’ prize launcher. A stress pig toss will take place during the game, and the popular “Bet Your Bacon” between-inning promotion will feature enhanced prizes. Fans should also keep their eyes open for special chocolate-dipped bacon treats.
