He becomes the fourth Canadian on the Goldeyes’ roster, joining pitchers Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, Alberta) and Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, Ontario), and outfielder Adam Hall (Lucan, Ontario). The Oakville, Ontario native spent the past three seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals’ system, reaching the Class-AA level with the Texas League’s Springfield Cardinals in 2023. Trogrlic-Iverson (pronounced TROE-ger-lik) appeared in 41 games for Springfield last year, all in relief. He compiled a 4-5 record with a 4.87 earned run average in 64.2 innings. The 26-year-old has a 14-15 career record with a 4.25 ERA and four saves in 96 games. Originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 15th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Central Arizona College (Coolidge, Arizona), Trogrlic-Iverson opted instead to attend Gonzaga University (Spokane, Washington) and was signed as a free agent by the Cardinals in June 2020. “We’re excited to add Nick to the bullpen. He's been successful everywhere he’s been, and I know that as a Canadian, he’s excited to come to Winnipeg,” said Goldeyes skipper Logan Watkins . “I think he is going to be a significant factor in our bullpen this season and have the ball in a lot of critical moments.” Winnipeg now has 21 players under contract for the 2024 season. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing Wednesday of catcher Kevin García . The 31-year-old rejoins the Goldeyes after spending the past three seasons in the Mexican League with the Pericos de Puebla, the Acereros de Monclova, and the Aguila de Veracruz. García played 127 games for Winnipeg over the 2018 and 2019 seasons, combing for a .246 batting average with 18 doubles, five home runs, and 51 runs batted in. His 2018 campaign was cut short by a knee injury suffered June 30 – at a time when he had thrown out a league-leading 50% of the baserunners attempting to steal against him. Hailing from Calexico, California, García was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 30th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, California). He spent two seasons in the Blue Jays’ system before signing with the Minnesota Twins in 2016. In four seasons in the affiliated minors, García hit .250 with two home runs and 54 RBIs. In addition to catching, he has played all four infield positions in his career. “Kevin is excited to come back to Winnipeg and be a part of this team,” said Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins . “Adding a guy like him with as much experience as he has will be a great asset to our pitching staff and clubhouse. Between him and Rob Emery I feel great about our catching situation, and I am sure our pitchers will be happy to have catchers they trust behind the plate.” Winnipeg now has 20 players under contract for the 2024 season. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced they have re-signed right-handed starting pitcher Joey Matulovich Monday. A native of Walnut Creek, California, Matulovich (pronounced mah-TOO-loh-vitch) joined the Goldeyes during the first week of the 2023 campaign and finished the season with a 5-9 record and a 3.93 earned run average in 20 starts. His 121 strikeouts were just three shy of the league lead, and he ranked fifth with 116.2 innings pitched. The 27-year-old was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of the University of California (Berkeley, California). He spent parts of five seasons in the Brewers’ system, reaching as high as Class-A Advanced with the Midwest League’s Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Matulovich appeared in 95 career games in the affiliated minor leagues, primarily out of the bullpen. He compiled a 12-10 record with a 4.66 ERA and two saves. “We’re very excited to get Joey back in a Goldeyes uniform. It was a long process, but he is looking forward to getting back to Winnipeg and having a great season,” said Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins . “He was one of the best pitchers in the league last year and I don’t anticipate that will change this season. I already felt good about our rotation and Joey makes it that much better.” Winnipeg now has 19 players under contract for the 2024 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 30 players during spring training, which begins May 1. 2024 Winnipeg Goldeyes Player Signings IF Andy Armstrong IF Edwin Arroyo RHP Landen Bourassa IF Ramón Bramasco RHP Justin Courtney IF Dayson Croes RHP Colton Eastman C Rob Emery OF Roby Enríquez OF Adam Hall OF Ryan Holgate RHP Marshall Kasowski RHP Joey Matulovich RHP Zac Reininger LHP Travis Seabrooke OF Miles Simington RHP Joey Steele LHP Tasker Strobel RHP Ryder Yakel The Goldeyes begin the 2024 season on the road versus the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday, May 9. Photo Credit: John Moore/Amarillo Sod Poodles WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing Thursday of outfielder Roby Enríquez . The 27-year-old spent the last two seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ system, reaching the Class-AA level with the Texas League’s Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2022 and 2023. In 136 games in Arizona’s chain, Enríquez hit .290 with 27 doubles, eight home runs, and 65 runs batted in. A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Enríquez made his professional debut with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League – a Major League Baseball Partner League – in 2021 after two seasons at Indiana State University (Terre Haute, Indiana). Enríquez also has experience playing in the Puerto Rican Winter League and has twice represented the island in the Caribbean Series, where he was a teammate of numerous Major League veterans. “I was made aware of Roby last season while I was with Cleburne and unfortunately, I didn't have the roster space to pursue him at the time but I am glad I had that opportunity this off season,” said Goldeyes skipper Logan Watkins . “He's got a lot of good baseball ahead of him and it is clear we just signed a very good hitter. He has put up very respectable numbers at the Double A level and we expect that to carry over for us this season.” Winnipeg now has 18 players under contract for the 2024 season.
